Grant Description
In-kind grants to USA non-profit organizations, municipalities, law enforcement entities, businesses, and boating agencies to promote water safety. The purpose of this program is to make life jackets available for boating and other water activities, at no cost. In addition to life jackets, grantees will receive signage, a press kit, and a program manual. Applicants may apply for a loaner stand building kit and life jackets, or just for life jackets without the stand.

Since 2008, the Sea Tow Foundation has distributed over 100,000 life jackets to local businesses and organizations across the country. The over 1,300 life jacket loaner stations currently in operation are placed in locations where boaters will have easy access to the life jackets, such as boat ramps, marinas, and parks. Boaters may borrow the life jackets at no cost and are asked to return them when they are finished so that they are available for others to use.

Your organization can apply to host and maintain a brand new Sea Tow Foundation Life Jacket Loaner Station that can be stocked with life jackets in a variety of sizes available for boaters to borrow free of charge for a day out on the water through the Life Jacket Loaner Program Grant.

Your organization can also apply to replenish an existing life jacket loaner station, apply to provide life jackets for participants in a recurring event, or stock life jackets on your organization’s boats for the public.

Your group can request life jackets to be used to:

  • Build a new loaner station
  • Replenish existing life jacket stations.
  • Use for a recurring event.
  • Use on your organization's patrol boats for the public.

By applying, your group agrees to become a Life Jacket Loaner Station Host who will manage and maintain any grant-funded life jackets and/or loaner stands from the Sea Tow Foundation.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
The Sea Tow Foundation has received grant funding from the Sport Fish Restoration & Boating Trust Fund, administered by the U.S. Coast Guard to expand the Life Jacket Loaner Program to non-profit organizations, municipalities, law enforcement, businesses, and boating agencies across the country.
